collings-i-35
Collings I-35

The I-35 is Collings' double cutaway semi-hollow in solid woods: a hollowed-out Honduran mahogany body with a maple centre block under a carved top of premium flamed maple. Collings carves that top with high arches and plenty of recurve, and describes the result as quick and complex with an airy character. Two Lollar Low Wind Imperial humbuckers run through 50s-style wiring, with a Kluson ABR-1 bridge and stop tailpiece.

The centre block is there to resist feedback, so the guitar handles volume, and the body is a manageable 15" wide and 1 5/8" deep. The Honduran mahogany neck has a 1 11/16" nut and a 24 7/8" scale over a bound rosewood board with mother-of-pearl long dots. Collings counts it among its most popular electrics.

For grained ivoroid binding and Collings' house-made Deluxe hardware, see the I-35 Deluxe. The laminated version is the I-35 LC. The I-35 can be built up with Collings' options for tops, finishes, trim and inlays, listed below.

The photo shows one example build.

Options for this model include:

Nonstandard, premium and metallic finishes

Aged finish and hardware

ThroBak humbuckers

Bigsby vibrato

Parallelogram or broken glass inlays

Gold hardware

60s neck profile

Left-handed build

Price subject to change based on options chosen.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA (built in Austin, Texas)
Construction: Semi hollow w/ maple center block
Body: Honduran mahogany
Top: Premium flamed maple
Soundhole: F-holes (unbound)
Body Binding: Non-grained ivoroid
Pickguard: Black/Cream/Black
Guitar Finish: High gloss nitrocellulose lacquer

NECK
Neck: Honduran mahogany
Neck Joint: Extra long mortise & tenon
Scale Length: 24 7/8"
Fingerboard: Rosewood w/ MOP long dots (5mm non-tapered)
Fingerboard Radius: 12"
Fingerboard Binding: Non-grained ivoroid
Frets: Medium 18% nickel-silver
Nut: 1 11/16"
Truss Rod Cover: Black/Cream/Black
Peghead Profile: Haircut
Peghead Veneer: Ebony w/ MOP Collings logo
Peghead Binding: None

ELECTRONICS
Pickups: Lollar Low Wind Imperial Humbuckers
Pickup Rings: Cream or black
Pots/Caps: CTS 500K / Jupiter Vintage Yellow
Wiring: 50s style
Knobs: Amber or black top hat

HARDWARE
Bridge: Kluson ABR-1(nickel-plated zinc w/ retaining wire)
Tailpiece: Kluson Stop Tailpiece (nickel-plated zinc, steel studs)
Tuners: Nickel Gotoh w/ Collings logo
Strings: D'Addario NYXL1149 (.011" - .049")

DIMENSIONS
Body Width: 15"
Body Length: 17 5/8"
Body Depth: 1 5/8"
Total Length: 40"

CASE
Case: Deluxe hardshell case
