collings-mf5-v
Collings MF5 V

The MF5 V is the MF5 finished in oil-based varnish. Collings keeps the carved Adirondack spruce top, the Eastern flamed maple back, sides and neck, the f-holes and the full ivoroid binding with black and white side purfling, then trades the nitrocellulose lacquer for a high gloss alkyd resin varnish and adds an ivoroid-bound ebony pickguard. The Collings tailpiece gets an engraved border.

Collings says its varnish goes on ultra-thin so the woods can resonate and respond as freely as possible. Tuners are nickel Gotoh with ivoroid buttons, and the peghead carries the mother-of-pearl Flourish inlay. For the lacquer version, look at the MF5. The MF5 Deluxe V shares this varnish and adds a tailpiece with more hand engraving, the deluxe etched Flourish and Waverly tuners with pearl buttons.

Tops, trim, inlays and other Collings options can be added, and the list follows below.

The photo shows one example build.

Options for this model include:

Italian spruce top, or torrefied Adirondack spruce on the MT2

Black or cream top finish

1 3/16" nut width

Ivoroid binding

Pickguard, bound or unbound

Waverly tuner upgrade

Left-handed build

Price subject to change based on options chosen.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA (built in Austin, Texas)
Construction: F-style
Top: Adirondack spruce
Back/Sides/Neck: Eastern flamed maple
Bracing: Tone bars
Soundhole: F-holes
Body Binding: Ivoroid with b/w side purfling
Pickguard: Ebony w/ ivoroid binding
Body Finish: High gloss alkyd resin varnish

NECK
Neck Profile: Rounded V
Neck Joint: Dovetail
Scale Length: 13 7/8"
Fingerboard: Ebony w/ MOP dots
Fingerboard Radius: 5 1/2" - 11 5/8" compound
Fingerboard Binding: Ivoroid with b/w side purfling
Frets: Medium 18% nickel-silver
Nut: 1 1/8"
String Spacing: 1 9/16"
Truss Rod: Fully Adjustable
Peghead Veneer: Ebony w/ MOP Collings logo and flourish
Peghead Binding: Ivoroid with b/w side purfling

HARDWARE
Bridge: Ebony w/ Adjustable Saddle
Tailpiece: Collings original tailpiece w/ engraved border
Tuners: Nickel Gotoh w/ ivoroid buttons
Strings: D'Addario EJ74 (.011" - .040")

DIMENSIONS
Body Width: 9 15/16"
Body Length: 12 7/8"
Body Depth: 1 13/16"
Total Length: 27 7/16"

CASE
Case: Deluxe hardshell case
