collings-sj-mh
Collings SJ Mh

The SJ Mh is Collings' small jumbo in Honduran mahogany, back, sides and neck, with a Sitka spruce top. It shares the SJ's 16" lower bout, 4 1/2" depth and tight waist, a shape Collings builds for players who want the bass and volume of a big guitar with clear trebles and a strong midrange.

The mahogany version moves to tortoise binding on the body, fingerboard and haircut peghead, each with b/w purfling, and a walnut backstrip. The ebony board carries mother-of-pearl Modern Diamonds, the C-shape neck has a 1 11/16" bone nut, the bracing is pre-war scalloped X, and it is strung with mediums.

The same body comes in maple as the SJ and in East Indian rosewood as the SJ Indian, and the CJ Mh puts mahogany on Collings' slope-shoulder jumbo. The SJ Mh can be built up with Collings' options in tops, finishes, trim, inlays and more, listed below.

The photo shows one example build.

Options for this model include:

Adirondack, old-growth Sitka, European, Engelmann or torrefied spruce top

Figured mahogany, cocobolo or figured maple back and sides

Sunburst or Western shaded top, full-body sunburst, Doghair or Jet Black finish

Cutaway

Short scale

Adirondack bracing

Abalone rosette or abalone top border

Wood binding

Peghead inlays (Torch, Flowerpot, Vine, Flourish, Rose)

Fingerboard inlays (snowflakes, Tree of Life and others)

Nut width and neck options

Left-handed build

Price subject to change based on options chosen.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA (built in Austin, Texas)
Top: Sitka spruce
Back & Sides: Honduran mahogany
Brace Material: Sitka spruce
Brace Pattern: Pre-war scalloped X-brace
Body Binding: Tortoise with b/w/b/w top purfling
Rosette: Ivoroid with b/w purfling
Backstrip: 1-style (Walnut)
Pickguard: Tortoise
Body Finish: High gloss nitrocellulose lacquer

NECK
Neck: Honduran mahogany
Neck Profile: C-shape
Neck Joint: Mortise & tenon hybrid
Scale Length: 25 1/2"
Fingerboard: Ebony with MOP Modern Diamonds
Fingerboard Radius: 14" - 26" compound
Fingerboard Binding: .100" Tortoise with b/w purfling
Frets: Medium 18% nickel-silver
Nut: Bone, 1 11/16"
Truss Rod: Fully adjustable
Peghead Profile: Haircut
Peghead Veneer: Ebony with MOP Collings logo and Modern Diamond Inlay
Peghead Binding: .100" Tortoise with b/w purfling

HARDWARE
Bridge: Ebony modern-style with 2 3/16" spacing
Saddle: Bone, drop-in
Bridge Pins/End Pin: Ebony with MOP dot
Tuners: Nickel Waverly
Strings: D'Addario EJ-17 (.013"- .056")

DIMENSIONS
Body Width: 16"
Body Length: 20 1/8"
Body Depth: 4 1/2"
Total Length: 41"

CASE
Case: Deluxe hardshell case
