fender-american-vintage-ii-1963-telecaster
Fender American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster

The 1963 Telecaster brought alder and a round-laminated rosewood board to the Tele, and this one follows that year closely. Two Pure Vintage '63 single-coils, a 3-saddle bridge with threaded steel barrel saddles and gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, with clay dots narrow-spaced at the 12th fret as on the originals.

The body wood depends on the finish: Crimson Red Transparent is mahogany, 3-Color Sunburst and Surf Green are alder, and ash is also part of the spec. The 1963 "C" neck is a comfortable carve with a 7.25" radius and vintage tall frets, round under the hand for chords. The three barrel saddles each carry two strings, so intonation is a period compromise.

For an earlier, chunkier take, see the American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster with its ash body and maple "U" neck. The American Ultra Luxe Vintage '60s Custom Telecaster pairs the same '63 pickups with a bound body and modern neck. Offered in 3-Color Sunburst, Crimson Red Transparent, Surf Green and Vintage Blonde.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA
Body Material: Alder, Mahogany or Ash (by finish)
Body Finish: Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Body Shape: Telecaster
Pickguard: 3-Ply Parchment or 1-Ply White (by finish)

NECK
Neck Material: Maple
Neck Construction: 4-Bolt
Neck Finish: Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Neck Shape: 1963 "C"
Fingerboard Radius: 7.25" (184.1 mm)
Fingerboard Material: Round-Laminated Rosewood
Position Inlays: Clay Dot
Side Dots: Vintage Clay
Number of Frets: 21
Fret Size: Vintage Tall
Truss Rod: Vintage-Style Butt Adjust
Nut Material: Bone
Nut Width: 1.650" (42 mm)
Scale Length: 25.5" (648 mm)

ELECTRONICS
Bridge Pickup: Pure Vintage '63 Single-Coil Tele
Neck Pickup: Pure Vintage '63 Single-Coil Tele
Pickup Configuration: SS
Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone
Switching: 3-Position Blade: Position 1.
