fender-jaco-pastorius-jazz-bass
Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass

Jaco Pastorius changed what the bass could do, and he did it on a sunburst fretless Jazz Bass. This recreation keeps that recipe: an alder body with no pickguard, a "C" shape maple neck and a slab pau ferro fingerboard with no frets, finished with a urethane coating.

Instead of dots on the face, the board has inlaid lines where the frets would be, and the side dots sit centred on those lines, so you have a visual guide with nothing raised under the fingers. A 1.5" nut keeps the neck slim at the first position. Two American Vintage single-coil Jazz Bass pickups each get their own volume, with a master tone, and the reverse open-gear tuners and vintage bridge keep the look period.

It comes strung with stainless flatwounds, in 3-Color Sunburst. For a different take on the fretless idea, the Tony Franklin Fretless Precision Bass is the one to compare, and if you want the same body with frets, look at the American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA
Body Material: Select Alder
Body Finish: Gloss Lacquer
Body Shape: Jazz Bass

NECK
Neck Material: Maple
Neck Finish: Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Neck Shape: "C" Shape
Fingerboard Radius: 12" (305 mm)
Fingerboard Material: Pau Ferro
Position Inlays: Side Dot
Number of Frets: Fretless
Fret Size: Fretless
Truss Rod: Vintage-Style Butt Adjust
Nut Material: Synthetic Bone
Nut Width: 1.5" (38.1 mm)
Scale Length: 34" (864 mm)

ELECTRONICS
Bridge Pickup: American Vintage Single-Coil Jazz Bass
Neck Pickup: American Vintage Single-Coil Jazz Bass
Pickup Configuration: SS
Controls: Volume 1.
