friedman-plex-head
Friedman Plex Head

The Plex is Dave Friedman's reading of his own 1968 JMP Super Lead, the amp that set him off building. It is 50 watts from two EL34s and three 12AX7s, with a Lead channel and a Normal channel that each get a volume control and run without a master, the way the '68 did. Push them harder and they give back more saturation.

Friedman added two things the original never had. The channels are jumpered inside the chassis, so blending Lead and Normal is a turn of a knob instead of the outside patch players used on vintage Plexis. A post-phase master volume then brings a cranked amp down to a usable level. Each channel has a 3-way Bright switch, there are Hi and Low inputs, and Bass, Middle, Treble and a global Presence finish the tone stack.

It is the first amp in Friedman's Vintage Collection. The Smallbox Head shares the 50 watts and the pair of EL34s but puts a plexi-style channel beside Friedman's modern high-gain channel, each with its own gain and master. The Plex is the one to choose when the Plexi is the whole point.

SPECIFICATIONS

AMPLIFIER
Country of Origin: United States
Configuration: 50-Watt All-Tube Head
Channels: 2 (Lead spec and Normal spec)
Series: Vintage Collection
Transformers: Custom, USA-Made Transformers

TUBES
Power Tubes: 2 X EL34
Preamp Tubes: 3 X 12AX7

CONTROLS
Channel 1: Volume (Lead spec channel)
Channel 2: Volume (Normal spec channel)
EQ: Bass, Middle, Treble, And Global Presence
Bright: 3-Way Bright Switch Per Channel
Master: Post-Phase Master Volume Control

CONNECTIONS
Inputs: Hi and Low
Speaker Outputs: 4, 8, And 16-Ohm Impedance Jacks

FEATURES
Inspired by Dave Friedman's favorite '68 JMP Super Lead Plexi
Internal Channel Jumpering
Limited Lifetime Warranty

DIMENSIONS
Dimensions: 8.75” (D) X 24” (W) X 10” (H)
Weight: 33.5 Lbs.
