martin-grand-j-28e-dn
Martin Grand J-28E DN

The Grand J-28E DN is a double-neck, a six-string and a 12-string on one Grand J body, built in Nazareth with a spruce top in Aging Toner over East Indian rosewood back and sides. Martin says it is the first double-neck it has made in more than a hundred years.

The trim is Style 28, from the back strip to the inlays on both ebony boards, with bone at the nut and pins and compensated bone saddles. The bracing is specific to this guitar: a non-scalloped X with scalloped tone bars. The six-string neck is a Modified Low Oval at 1 11/16" across the nut, the 12-string neck is 1 13/16", and both use High-Performance Taper on a 25.4" scale. A Fishman Double Neck System handles the electronics, and it comes in a molded hardshell case.

It suits a player who moves between six and 12 strings within a set and would rather not change guitars to do it. For a single-neck 12-string on a Grand J body, look at the Grand J-16E 12-String; for a 12-string dreadnought in the Standard Series, the HD12-28.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA (Nazareth, Pennsylvania)
Body Size: Grand J-14 Fret
Construction: Dovetail Neck Joint
Back Material: East Indian Rosewood
Side Material: East Indian Rosewood
Back and Sides Finish: Gloss
Back and Sides Color: Natural
Back Purfling/Strip: Style 28
Back Inlay Material: Multi-Stripe
Bracing Pattern: Unique Double Neck X Brace
Brace Shape: Unique DN Non Scalloped X with Scalloped Tone Bars
Brace Material: Spruce
Brace Size: 5/16"
Top Material: Spruce
Finish Top: Gloss
Top Color: Aging Toner
Top Inlay Material: Multi-Stripe
Binding: Antique White
Rosette: Multi-Stripe

NECK
Neck Shape: Modified Low Oval (6 String), 12 String (12 String)
Neck Taper: High-Performance Taper
Neck Material: Select Hardwood
Neck Color: Dark Mahogany
Finish Neck: Satin
Scale Length: 25.4"
Number of Frets Total: 20
Neck Joins Body At: 14th Fret
Heelcap: Antique White
Fingerboard Material: Ebony
Fingerboard Width at 12th Fret: 2 1/8" (6 String), 2 1/4" (12 String)
Fingerboard Width at Nut: 1 11/16" (6 String), 1 13/16" (12 String)
Fingerboard Inlay Style: Style 28
Fingerboard Inlay Material: Mother of Pearl
Side Dots: White
Headstock Shape: Solid with Square Taper and Diamond
Headplate Material: East Indian Rosewood
Headplate Logo Style: Script Old Style Overlay

ELECTRONICS
Electronics: Fishman Double Neck System

HARDWARE
Bridge Material: Ebony
Bridge Style: Modern Belly - Drop-In Saddle
Bridge String Spacing: 2 5/32" (6 String), 2 5/16" (12 String)
Bridge Pin Material: Bone
Bridge Pin Dots: Tortoise Pattern
Saddle: Compensated Bone
Saddle Radius: 16"
Tuning Machines: Nickel Open Gear
Knob: Butterbean
Nut Material: Bone

CASE
Case: Molded Hardshell
