martin-j-16e
Martin J-16E

The J-16E is a 14-fret jumbo from the 16 Series, built in Nazareth with a spruce top over satin East Indian rosewood back and sides. It has scalloped X bracing, a simple dovetail neck joint, a Modified Low Oval neck with High-Performance Taper, an ebony board with Style 28 inlays and an L.R. Baggs Element. Martin built it for volume and projection from the big body.

All three tops are gloss. The 1935 Burst and Cream take a faux tortoise guard, and Black Smoke takes grained ivoroid. We would pick the 1935 Burst for a traditional jumbo look, or Cream for a lighter one. For the same body in the Standard Series, in gloss rosewood with abalone trim and Golden Era bracing, look at the J-40; for the 16 Series in mahogany on a slope-shoulder dreadnought, the DSS-16E.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA (Nazareth, Pennsylvania)
Body Size: J 14-Fret
Construction: Simple Dovetail Neck Joint
Back Material: East Indian Rosewood
Side Material: East Indian Rosewood
Back and Sides Finish: Satin
Back and Sides Color: Natural
Back Inlay Material: Black Stripe
Bracing Pattern: X-Brace
Brace Shape: Scalloped
Brace Material: Spruce
Brace Size: 5/16"
Top Material: Spruce
Finish Top: Gloss
Top Color: 1935 Burst (1935 Burst) / Black Smoke (Black Smoke) / Cream (Cream)
Top Inlay Material: Black Stripe
Binding: Antique White
Pickguard: Faux Tortoise (1935 Burst) / Grained Ivoroid (Black Smoke) / Faux Tortoise (Cream)
Rosette: Custom Multi-Stripe

NECK
Neck Shape: Modified Low Oval
Neck Taper: High-Performance Taper
Neck Material: Select Hardwood
Neck Color: Dark Mahogany
Finish Neck: Satin
Scale Length: 25.4"
Number of Frets Total: 20
Neck Joins Body At: 14th Fret
Heelcap: Antique White
Fingerboard Material: Ebony
Fingerboard Width at 12th Fret: 2 1/8''
Fingerboard Width at Nut: 1 3/4''
Fingerboard Inlay Style: Style 28
Fingerboard Inlay Material: Mother of Pearl
Side Dots: White
Headstock Shape: Solid with Square Taper
Headplate Material: East Indian Rosewood
Headplate Logo Style: Script Old Style Overlay
Pleked: Yes

ELECTRONICS
Electronics: L.R.
