prs-silver-sky
PRS Silver Sky

The Silver Sky came out of a close collaboration between John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, built from their favourite elements of 1963 and 1964 instruments. It's an alder body with three 635JM single coils, a bolt-on maple neck, 22 frets and a 25.5" scale.

A few specs set it apart. The 7.25" radius is rounder than the 10" used elsewhere in PRS's Bolt-On line, so the board curves more under your fretting hand. The steel tremolo uses Gen III knife-edge screws and is set flush to the body, which means it only moves down in pitch. PRS inverted its own headstock shape to keep the string length behind the nut consistent, and the vintage-style tuners lock.

This is for the player who loves a three-single-coil guitar of that era and wants one built to PRS's standard. If a humbucker at the bridge appeals, the Fiore is the comparison, and the Silver Sky Satin is this model in satin nitro. Our pick is Polar Blue, the colour we picture first when someone says Silver Sky.

The Fingerboard option is rosewood or maple, and it changes the neck too. Maple comes with the original 635JM shape, while rosewood carries the 635JM-R, which PRS reshaped in the shoulders to feel more rounded. Both keep the 7.25" radius and Small Birds.

SPECIFICATIONS

BODY
Country of Origin: USA
Body Construction: Solidbody
Body Wood: Alder
Top Carve: Flat Top
Finish Type(s): High-Gloss Nitro
Neck Finish Type: Satin Nitro

NECK
Number of Frets: 22
Fret Wire: PRS Medium
Width of Fret Crown: .085"
Height of Fret Crown: .045"
Scale Length: 25.5"
Neck Wood: Maple
Neck Construction: Scarfed
Truss Rod: PRS Double-Acting
Neck Shape: 635JM-R (Rosewood Fretboard); 635JM (Maple Fretboard)
Neck Depth at the 1/2 Fret: 55/64" (Rosewood fingerboard); 27/32" (Maple fingerboard)
Neck Depth at the 12 1/2 Fret: 63/64" (Rosewood fingerboard); 31/32" (Maple fingerboard)
Neck Width at the Nut: 1 21/32" (Rosewood fingerboard); 1 41/64" (Maple fingerboard)
Neck Width at the Body: 2 15/64"
Fretboard Wood: Rosewood; Maple
Fretboard Radius: 7.25”
Fretboard Inlay: Small Birds
Headstock Logo: Signature, Decal
Neck/Body Assembly Type: Bolt-On

HARDWARE
Bridge: PRS Steel Tremolo
Tuners: Vintage-Style, Locking
Hardware Type: Nickel
Nut: Bone

ELECTRONICS
Treble Pickup: 635JM
Middle Pickup: 635JM
Bass Pickup: 635JM
Controls: One Volume and Two Tone Controls with a 5-Way Blade Pickup Switch

STRINGS
Strings: PRS Signature 10-46
Tuning: Standard (6 String): E, A, D, G, B, E

CASE
Case: Premium Gig Bag
