The Firebird Platypus follows a short-lived 1965 transition, when Gibson replaced the Firebird's layered reverse headstock with a flat one carrying six-in-line tuners. It looked like a platypus bill, hence the name. Gibson has also straightened the string pull for better tuning stability.
A mahogany body styled like the neck-through Reverse Firebird, with a set SlimTaper mahogany neck, two Firebird mini humbuckers, two volumes and two tones, a Nashville Tune-O-Matic and stop bar, and Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. Ebony, Tobacco Sunburst and Vintage Cherry.
