Ian Vance runs it — a Fender Custom Shop Technician and Taylor Gold Level Technician with over two decades of professional experience, and a lifelong player himself. These are the same hands that go over every instrument the shop sells before it ships.

The bench is at 1345 Wellington St. West. It is one bench and it takes on a limited amount of outside work at a time, so what the wait looks like depends on what is already on it.

Tuning, repair, restoration and appraisal. Lauzon Music was established in 1945 as a business specialising in piano reconditioning and restoration, and the piano service department has been here ever since.

Pianos travel badly. Where the job allows it we come to you and do the work on site, and we arrange pick-up and delivery when a piece has to come in.

Every instrument we sell comes through here

Before a guitar leaves the shop it is checked, adjusted and signed off on this bench. Same room, same hands, every instrument we sell.

If you bought it from us that setup is included, and you get to say how you want it playing. It is not a repair booking and it does not go in the queue.

The rest of it is repair and restoration. Restoration is the part we like best — bringing something back that has not been playable in years.

What do you repair?

Guitars, basses and pianos, in house. New instruments needing a first setup through to delicate work on old and unusual pieces.

How long will it take?

It depends on the instrument, how old it is, how bad the damage is, and on what is already on the bench — which is usually a fair amount. Lead times move around, so we would rather give you a real one when you ask than a flattering one on a web page.

Do you cover repairs under warranty?

Many of the instruments we sell carry a manufacturer warranty, limited or lifetime. If you bought it here and it is covered, we will handle the repair or the servicing. If you are not sure whether yours is covered, ask us and we will check.

Do I need an appointment?

There is no booking system. Walk-ins are fine and so is calling the shop first — that is the whole of it.

Will you work on vintage instruments?

Yes. Older and unusual pieces are a good part of what crosses the bench — vintage guitars, and pianos that have not been touched in decades. When one comes in we will tell you honestly what it needs, and what it does not.

Can you come to me for a piano?

Pianos are hard to move, so yes. We offer pick-up and delivery where it is needed, and depending on the job we can often do the work at your place.

There is no price list on the site. Quotes are given on the instrument, in the shop — nobody can price a repair sight unseen and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
