Why this one made the wall

The ES-355 was the top of the line, and every difference between it and a 335 is a difference in specification rather than decoration. Ebony fingerboard instead of rosewood, fifties block inlays, a split diamond in the headstock, multi-ply binding everywhere it will fit, and gold-standard fittings throughout.

In Ebony, Ultra Light Aged in the Murphy Lab. On a black guitar, Ultra Light is the right call: enough checking to take the plastic sheen off the lacquer and enough dulling on the nickel to make it look owned, without wear that would break up the black.

Semi-hollow maple, poplar and maple with a solid maple centreblock, mahogany neck in the fifties rounded medium C, 24.75" scale, 22 medium jumbo frets. Twin humbuckers with volume and tone each, and the Varitone, which gives six switchable filter positions on top of the tone controls rather than a wider sweep of the same thing.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

What does the free setup cover?

Every instrument crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, and on an online order that setup is free.

What it covers depends on what the guitar needs. Frets, fretboard, hardware, fresh strings, truss rod, action, nut slots, intonation, pickup height and electronics are all part of it, and none of it is an upcharge. The menu above shows the choices you get to make.

What if it is not right when it arrives?
