A matched pair of germanium transistors, hand-picked, in the two-transistor arrangement the original Arbiter Fuzz Face used. No silicon anywhere in it.
Where it goes past the original is control. Alongside Volume and Fuzz there is an input bias knob for pulling the woolliness out, and a contour control for the midrange, sustain and harmonic content. An internal trimmer sets tracking and clipping symmetry if you want to go further.
True bypass, and it runs on a 9V battery or a center-positive supply.
