A '57 goldtop refinished to burst, and Ultra Heavy Aged. Both halves of that matter.
Refinishing a goldtop to sunburst is something that actually happened to these guitars once flame tops became the thing people wanted, and it is why a genuine refin carries a different kind of provenance from a guitar that left the factory as a burst. Gibson builds the story in rather than pretending it away.
Ultra Heavy is the top of the Murphy Lab's range. It is not subtle and it is not meant to be: checking through the lacquer, wear to the wood where an arm and a forearm sit, hardware dulled and pitted. If you want a guitar that looks like it has been somewhere, this is the grade that does it.
Solid mahogany with a maple top, chunky C mahogany neck, Indian rosewood board with cellulose trapezoid inlays. Unpotted Custombucker Alnico IIIs, CTS 500K audio taper pots, paper-in-oil capacitors, ABR-1 and stopbar, Kluson tuners.
