The ARIUS YDP-146 is Yamaha's traditional upright digital piano, with 88 keys on the GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) action. The keys are weighted heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble, the way an acoustic's are, with matte black keytops. Yamaha improved the key sensors on this model for better response on trills, grace notes and fast repeated notes.
The piano voice is sampled from the Yamaha CFX, the company's flagship concert grand. VRM Lite adds the sympathetic string resonance of a grand, and it changes with how you strike the keys and how far down the damper pedal is. All three pedals are here: damper with half-pedalling, sostenuto and soft, so you can play the pedal markings in classical repertoire as written.
For quiet practice there are two headphone jacks, and Yamaha's Stereophonic Optimizer makes the sound in headphones seem to come from the piano itself. Bluetooth audio streams music from a phone through the piano's speakers, and the Smart Pianist app connects for settings and sheet music for all 353 built-in songs, including the 50 classics in the music book that comes with it. The USB port also works as an audio interface for recording into a computer.
The cabinet has a sliding key cover and rounded corners, and it measures about 53 1/2 inches wide by 16 5/8 deep. It comes with a bench.
