The SS-100 V2 is the second version of Friedman's first signature amp. Dave Friedman built the original SS-100 for Steve Stevens in 2011, and after nearly ten years the two of them re-voiced the dirty channels to be more percussive and more dynamic. The clean channel was left as it was.
It is a 100-watt, three-channel head, hand-wired in the USA with four EL34s and five 12AX7s. The clean channel has its own Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass and 3-way Bright switch. The SS and SS+ channels each have their own gain and master and share Bass, Middle, Treble and a Fat switch. Thump, Presence and System Volume sit over everything. Friedman's own starting points: gain low and master up for 60s and 70s classic rock, gain between 7 and 10 for a modern sound. The head shell is redesigned, blacked-out Baltic Birch.
Among the 100-watt heads in Friedman's line, the BE-100 Deluxe also runs three channels with its two BE drive channels and a Smallbox-style clean, and the Phil X runs one channel with a boost. The SS-100 V2 is the one built around Steve Stevens's high gain, with a two-button footswitch with LEDs included.
