Who this one is for

The VX-30 Head is Dave Friedman's take on the early-1960s British EL84 amp: 30 watts from four EL84s, three ECC83s in the preamp, a 5AR4 tube rectifier, cathode bias and no negative feedback. Friedman built the circuit from a 1963 copper-panel amp with a Top Boost circuit, and it's handcrafted in Los Angeles on custom-made transformers.

The Brilliant channel has its own Treble, Bass and Volume. The Normal channel has a Volume and a three-position Voice switch, Treble, Normal or Bass, after the voicings the originals were offered in. Unlike those amps, the two channels run in phase, so you can blend them the way you'd jump the inputs on a Plexi. A Cut control and a Master Volume let the EL84s work at a level a room can take, and there's no standby switch because the rectifier warms the amp up gently on its own.

Pair it with the matching VX-212, which carries two Celestion Alnico Blues, or with any cab you already own: there's one 16 ohm output plus paired outputs for a single 8 ohm cab or two 16 ohm cabs. If you'd rather carry one box, the VX-30 2x12 Combo puts the same amp and the same two speakers in a single cabinet. It comes in Black or Ivory.

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
