The J-185 dates from the early fifties, built a little smaller than the SJ-200 with the J-45's shorter 24.75 inch scale. Gibson describes it as balanced across lows, mids and highs, and Gibson itself calls it one of its best and least-known acoustics.
Sitka spruce over flame maple back and sides, hand-scalloped X-bracing, a SlimTaper mahogany neck on a rosewood board with parallelogram inlays, a bone nut and saddle, and Gotoh keystone tuners. A Baggs VTC pickup with volume and tone. Vintage Sunburst, gloss nitro.
