Our take

Who this one is for

The OM-42 dresses the 25.4"-scale 000 body in abalone. It runs around the top and through the rosette, the ebony board carries Style 45 Snowflake inlays in abalone, and the board and headplate are bound in antique white with multi-stripe. The East Indian rosewood headplate has the Golden Era block logo inlaid, the bridge pins are dotted in abalone, and the tuners are gold open gear.

Underneath, it is built like the OM-28: East Indian rosewood back and sides, a spruce top in Aging Toner, Golden Era Scalloped X bracing, a bone nut and a compensated bone saddle. The neck is genuine mahogany in the Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval with the High-Performance Taper, 1 3/4" at the nut, and it is finished in gloss where the OM-28's is satin.

It suits a fingerstyle player who wants the long-scale OM with pearl appointments. The OM-28 is the same body and woods with herringbone, and the OM-45 adds abalone around the sides and swaps the snowflakes for Style 45 Hexagon inlays. On the 24.9" scale, the 000-42 is its counterpart.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
