The R-121 is Royer's flagship ribbon and the mic plenty of engineers reach for first on a guitar cabinet. It is hand-built in Burbank, California, around a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon, and it handles more than 160 dB at 1 kHz, so it can sit right up on a loud amp or a horn section.
Royer's offset-ribbon design gives it two voices: the back of the mic is brighter than the front when you work it close, so flipping it is a tone control. There are no active electronics to overload. Beyond guitar, Royer puts it on brass, drum rooms, percussion and piano.
It comes in Royer's protective wood case with a mic sock, and carries Royer's lifetime warranty to the original owner.
