The Riot is Suhr's high-gain distortion, voiced and made to respond like a good 100-watt tube amp, and built to turn a clean amp into a rock rhythm sound. Suhr states the circuit and tone are identical to the original Riot.
Dist, Level and Tone are joined by a three-way voicing switch. Left keeps it natural and responsive to the guitar's volume knob, middle moves into high gain with a solid midrange and tight low end, and right gives a vintage high-gain response with clear definition. There is enough Level on tap to drive a tube amp's front end as well. True bypass runs through a relay, which Suhr notes pops less when switching, and the FX Link jack lets a loop switcher turn it on and off.
For the Riot sound on a smaller footprint with a two-way voicing switch, look at the Riot Mini Black Edition. For two independent drive channels, the Eclipse Black Edition.
