A Collings D1 built with two of Collings' custom options: an Old-Growth Sitka spruce top, and no soundboard graft (tongue brace). The back and sides are Honduran mahogany. The D1 is the plainest of Collings' dreadnoughts in its appointments: tortoise binding, a walnut backstrip, a simple b/w rosette and an unbound ebony fingerboard with long dots.
The rest of the construction is the same as the rest of the range. That means pre-war scalloped X-bracing in Sitka, a mortise and tenon hybrid neck joint, a bone nut and drop-in bone saddle, and Collings' Modified V neck at 1 11/16" with 2 3/16" spacing at the bridge and a 14" to 26" compound radius. Collings voices its standard dreadnoughts for clarity and headroom over a tight low end, which is why bluegrass flatpickers who share a stage with banjos and fiddles keep choosing them.
It weighs 4 lb 7 oz.
