The Thinline first appeared in 1968 as a semi-hollow Telecaster, with a solid centre, hollow wings and an f-hole on the upper bout, which makes it lighter than a solid Tele. The Vintage Custom 1968 Tele Thinline is the mahogany version, in Aged Natural lacquer over a WLS undercoat, with no aging to the finish and Closet Classic hardware.
The neck is maple with a lite tint, a '60s Oval "C" carve and a round-laminated maple fingerboard with a 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius and medium vintage frets. Two Custom Shop Hand-Wound '67 Single-Coil Tele pickups run through the standard three positions, bridge, both and neck. A 4-ply white pearloid pickguard and Schaller "F" tuners finish it in period style.
For a modern-spec Thinline, look at the American Custom Telecaster Thinline NOS or, with wear, the American Custom Tele Thinline Journeyman Relic. The Artisan Knotty Pine Tele Thinline RW takes the same body shape into knotty pine with a rosewood board.
It comes in Aged Natural.
The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.
