1957 is the year the Precision Bass took the shape most players know: the split pickup and the larger headstock. The Vintage Custom '57 P Bass recreates it on a two-piece select alder body in Wide-Fade 2-Color Sunburst, with a gold anodized aluminum pickguard and a Custom Shop Hand-Wound '57 Precision Bass pickup.
The quartersawn maple neck has a 1957 Soft "V" carve and a 1.75" nut, wider than a Jazz Bass, with a 7.25" radius that feels round under the fretting hand and 20 Jescar Medium Vintage (47095) frets. It comes strung with stainless steel flatwound strings (.055 to .105), and the controls are a simple volume and tone.
For the earlier slab-body bass with a single-coil pickup, look at the Vintage Custom 1951 Precision Bass. The 1956 Precision Bass Heavy Relic and the 1958 Precision Bass Relic are the worn-in takes on the same years.
It comes in Wide-Fade 2-Color Sunburst with a one-piece maple neck.
The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from bass to bass, so the one built for you will differ in the details.
