Nate Mendel has played essentially one bass from his hardcore punk days through Sunny Day Real Estate and the Foo Fighters, a 1971 Precision. This model copies its quirks: special body contours on the ash body, an extra-slim C neck and a narrow 1.615" nut, in a lightly worn Candy Apple Red with a black pickguard.
The slim neck sits on a 7.25" radius rosewood board with 20 medium jumbo frets. A Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound split single-coil, a hotter pickup than a vintage P, runs through master volume and tone. The HiMass bridge with chrome-plated zinc saddles gives the strings a solid anchor. His signature is on the headstock, and a spare neck plate engraved with a hybrid Foo Fighters logo comes with it.
Candy Apple Red, rosewood board, right-handed, with a gig bag. For another punk player's P Bass with a fuller neck and Road Worn finish, see the Mike Dirnt Road Worn Precision Bass. The American Vintage II 1960 Precision Bass is the vintage-spec alternative.
