Our take

Who this one is for

Nile Rodgers bought a used 1960 hardtail Stratocaster in a Miami music shop, sprayed it Olympic White himself in the early days of Chic, and has played it on every hit he has produced since. The Hitmaker recreates it, including the 1960 alder body that is smaller and more contoured than a typical vintage Strat.

The hardtail is the point. A strings-through-body bridge with bent steel saddles and no tremolo, plus locking tuners. The Hitmaker single-coils are voiced after the original, and the middle pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity, so the in-between positions cancel hum. The second tone covers the bridge pickup. The one-piece maple neck has a 1959 C profile with a satin finish, a 9.5" radius maple board, medium jumbo frets and a bone nut.

The mirrored chrome-plated brass pickguard and white speed knobs complete the look, with a "Nile Rodgers & Chic" logo on the back of the headstock and a Hitmaker neck plate. Made in the USA, Olympic White with a maple board, right-handed, with an embroidered hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity. For a 60s Strat with a tremolo, see the American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
