The JEL-50 is the 50-watt Jake E. Lee signature head, hand-wired in the USA with two EL34s, three 12AX7s and custom USA made transformers. It follows the JEL-20's plan, a Plexi channel beside a hotter JEL channel tuned to Lee's ear, with more power and a different power section.
The JEL channel has Gain, Master, a 3-way Bright switch and a push-pull Hi/Lo gain switch. The Plexi channel has Gain, Volume and its own 3-way Bright switch, and Bass, Middle and Treble are shared. Thump and Presence sit on the rear panel and shape the power section. Friedman built it to take pedals in front, boosts, ODs, phasers, flangers, tremolos and wahs, with time-based effects in the ultra-transparent series loop it uses across its amps.
Its match is the JEL-212 Cab, in the same red Tolex and white piping over solid Baltic birch. The JEL-20 Head is the 20-watt EL84 version and adds a cab-simulated XLR output and silent recording. The JEL-50 carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty, against five years on the JEL-20.
