The Jose-20 is the Friedman Jose sound in a 20-watt head: two EL84 power tubes, four 12AX7s and custom made transformers, handcrafted in Los Angeles. Dave Friedman developed the series with Marisol Arredondo, whose father Jose Arredondo modified the British amps the whole design is built around.
Volume I and Volume II are bridged inside the chassis, so you get the old patch-cable channel-jumping blend of the bright and normal inputs without the cable. The Plexi/Gain switch adds a true extra gain stage and the Fat switch adds body and low end. The three-position Gain Style switch moves the master volume within the circuit and brings in diode clipping, which gives you three different gain structures. A System Master Volume lets it run at lower volumes, and there is a transparent series effects loop.
The Jose-100 Head is the full-size version: 100 watts from four EL34s, dual switchable Presence controls and 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs, at 47 lbs against this head's 22.5. If you'd rather have the speaker in the same box, the Jose-20 1x12 Combo carries this circuit with a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback.
