The Runt-20 is a 20-watt, two-channel head with two EL-84s and three 12AX7s, in a black Tolex, Baltic birch cabinet 18 inches wide and 22 pounds. The clean channel keeps it simple: a volume knob and a three-position bright switch, good for clean through a slightly broken-up blues or country sound. The overdrive channel is the main event, with a Boost switch and the Gain knob taking it from classic rock to full-on high gain, and a global presence control over the power section.
The Runt-20's party piece is its internal load. You can play it with no speaker cabinet connected and take the signal from the cab-simulated XLR output, which has ground lift, level and a center/edge speaker switch. So it records quietly at home and still drives a real cab at a gig. The buffered series effects loop and pedal-friendly front end are the same as on the bigger Runt.
Against the Runt-50, you give up the EL-34s, the clean channel's bass and treble, and the 4 ohm setting, and gain the internal load and a smaller box. The Pink Taco V2 and Little Sister share the Runt-20's tube complement and footprint but are single-channel amps. The Runt-20 Combo puts this head over a Celestion G12M Creamback.
