Our take

Who this one is for

The 000-28 is the Standard Series 000-14 fret guitar in East Indian rosewood under a spruce top, with Golden Era Scalloped X-bracing. It carries the Style 28 trim: bold herringbone around the top, antique white binding, heelcap and endpiece, a Style 28 multi-stripe rosette and abalone diamonds and squares in the long pattern on ebony. The neck is the Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval with a High-Performance Taper, a 1 3/4'' nut and a 24.9" scale.

There are three finishes, all gloss. Gloss has the Aging Toner top, Gloss 1933 Ambertone gives the spruce an amber colour across the whole top, and Gloss 1935 Sunburst shades it toward the edges. Our pick would be the 1933 Ambertone, which keeps the grain in full view while giving the herringbone and white binding a warmer top to sit against.

For mahogany on the same body, look at the 000-18. The 000-28 Modern Deluxe adds a VTS-treated European Red Spruce top and Liquidmetal pins, and the 00-28 is this guitar one size smaller.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
