Who this one is for

The D-18 Authentic 1937 is Martin's recreation of a Golden Era D-18, put together with hide glue. The top and braces are Adirondack spruce with VTS, scalloped in the Forward Shifted X Brace pattern, over genuine mahogany back and sides, and the neck is genuine mahogany too. The whole guitar wears Vintage Gloss, with a clear top.

The neck follows the Authentic 1937 shape with the Standard Taper and a 1 3/4" nut, widening to 2 1/4" at the 12th fret. At the bridge, an Authentic Belly with a glue-in long saddle sets the strings 2 1/4" apart, which gives the picking hand more room than the 2 5/32" spacing on the Standard Series D-18. Brown tortoise pattern binding, a Madagascar rosewood back strip and headplate, Old Style 18 abalone inlays and Waverly nickel open-back tuners round out the period details.

Martin describes a dry, punchy pre-war sound. For the same guitar with an aged finish, look at the D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS Aged; for Guatemalan rosewood, the D-28 Authentic 1937. The Custom Shop D-18 pairs Adirondack and genuine mahogany with a modern neck.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
