Our take

Who this one is for

The D-45 is the most ornate Dreadnought in Martin's Standard Series. Abalone runs around the top, back and sides and through the endpiece, the ebony board carries Style 45 Hexagon inlays in abalone, and the rosette is abalone as well. The rest is the Standard Series rosewood Dreadnought: East Indian rosewood back and sides, a spruce top under an Aging Toner, and Golden Era Scalloped 5/16" braces in the Forward-Shifted X Brace pattern.

The genuine mahogany neck is the Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval with the High-Performance Taper, gloss finished, with a 1 3/4" nut. Gold open-gear tuners with butterbean knobs, bone pins with abalone dots, a bone nut and a compensated bone saddle round it out.

Step back to the D-42 to keep the abalone top border and drop it from the back and sides. For a Style 45 Dreadnought with a VTS top and the Vintage Deluxe neck, look at the D-45 Modern Deluxe. The OM-45 brings this trim to the 000 body.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
