Who this one is for

The HD-28 is a 14-fret dreadnought in East Indian rosewood and spruce, trimmed with bold herringbone around the top, a zig-zag back strip, abalone Diamonds and Squares Long inlays and a diamond on the headstock. Underneath it has Golden Era Scalloped Forward-Shifted X Brace, a Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval neck with High-Performance Taper and 1 3/4" at the nut, and bone at the nut, saddle and pins. Martin puts it forward on power and balance.

There are three gloss tops. Gloss carries Martin's Aging Toner, and Gloss 1933 Ambertone and Gloss 1935 Sunburst are named for their top colours. Our pick is the Gloss with its Aging Toner top, and the Gloss 1935 Sunburst if you want a shaded one.

For the same body with multi-stripe top trim and Style 28 inlays, look at the D-28. The HD-28E adds a Fishman Aura VT Blend, the HD-35 moves to a three-piece back and 1/4" braces, and the Super HD-28 puts the herringbone on Martin's Super D body. For mahogany, the D-18.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
