Our take

Who this one is for

The 314ce is one of Taylor's best-selling models, and the Next Generation version keeps its formula: a Grand Auditorium in solid Sitka spruce and solid sapele, gloss all over, with a slim Taylor neck. The updates are in the bracing, the neck and the pickup. Scalloped V-Class bracing adds bass depth along with volume, sustain and pitch accuracy, the long-tenon Action Control Neck lets you set string height on the fly, and the Claria Acoustic Pickup System is built to take the harsh edge off a traditional piezo.

Taylor describes a punchy midrange with bright trebles over a warm, woody low end, and pitches the 314ce as a guitar that covers a lot of ground, from a quiet room to a big stage. Weathervane inlays, a firestripe pickguard, nickel tuners and black binding finish it off.

For the same body and woods with a torrefied top, a 1-11/16" nut and Expression System 2 electronics, see the 314ce Studio. The Next Generation 312ce is the compact Grand Concert version on a shorter scale, and the Next Generation 414ce swaps the sapele for Indian rosewood.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
