Our take

Who this one is for

The Ben Harper Gold Label 512e Special Edition is built on the Gold Label 512e: a slightly deeper Grand Concert with Neo-Tropical Mahogany back and sides, a torrefied spruce top, fanned V-Class bracing and a 24-7/8" scale. The top is the Ben Harper Shaded Edge Burst, a golden-brown burst Taylor developed with Ben Harper, in gloss over the top, back and sides.

Next to the standard 512e, the fretboard, peghead veneer and bridge are Honduran rosewood, the bridge pins are bone, the tuners are Taylor polished bronze and the pickguard is cream with black. Cream binding, a matching black-trimmed rosette and Crest inlays carry the look through. The electronics change to the Claria Acoustic Pickup System, with its controls mounted at the soundhole.

The neck matches the standard model: Standard Carve, 1-3/4" at the nut, on the Action Control Neck. The short scale and compact body make it a comfortable guitar to hold for a long session. For the natural gloss finish and an LR Baggs Element VTC, look at the Gold Label 512e.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
