Who this one is for

The Somos 657ce Bajo Quinto is the top of Taylor's bajo quinto range: a solid Sitka spruce top over solid Big Leaf maple back and sides, in the round-shoulder Grand Pacific body with V-Class bracing. Its ten strings are tuned in fourths, A-D-G-C-F, with the A and D courses doubled in octaves and the G, C and F in unison.

Taylor reworked the bridge for this one, with an offset pin and string-ramp layout so each pair of strings can ring without crowding its neighbour. A Florentine cutaway opens up the upper frets.

The look follows classic Mexican instruments: a white pearloid double pickguard and truss rod cover, mother-of-pearl Mission inlays edged in grained ivoroid, ebony pins with green abalone dots and gold mini tuners. An EMG ACS soundhole humbucker handles the amplified sound, and it comes in a Western Floral hardshell case.

The same tuning comes in koa on the Somos 260ce-K DLX Bajo Quinto, or in gloss black on the 250ce Plus BLK. The 12-string sibling is the Somos 657ce Doce Doble.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
