The Ironman II is a 100-watt reactive power attenuator. It sits between the amp and the speaker, lets the amp run at full output, and sends only a chosen fraction of that power on to the cab. Its load follows the impedance curve of a real speaker, and the power is divided through custom transformers rather than a resistor ladder, so the top end and the feel of the amp come through at low settings.
There are 18 settings across the Solo, Hi and Lo ranges. The included footswitch flips between Solo and your Hi or Lo setting, which gives you a second, louder level for solos. A three-position Presence switch takes some brightness off. Separate impedance switches for the amp and the speaker (4, 8 or 16 ohms each) let you match a cab that doesn't match the amp.
The back has a balanced XLR DI with an analog cab simulation (cone or edge mic position, level, ground lift) and a 1/4" line out, so it also works as a load box for silent recording with no speaker connected. For an amp of 30 watts or less into 8 ohms, the Ironman II Mini is the smaller, pedal-format option.
