The Royalist Preamp puts the Royalist MKIII's British voices on a pedalboard. Three 12AX7s run at high voltage, one of them as a phase inverter, which Tone King calls a zero-watt power amp, so the preamp reacts the way the amp does when it's pushed.
Both channels have Volume, Bass, Middle and Treble, a FAT switch, and the amp's 1964, 1967 and 1970 voicing switch. They differ in the tone stack. The top channel uses a JTM45, Bassman and Super Bass style EQ, and the bottom one a later British Lead stack, so one leans tight and articulate and the other more midrange-forward. Dual Iron Man attenuators, HF switches, reverb assignable to either channel, 20 OwnHammer impulse responses and 128 MIDI presets round it out.
Choose it for direct recording or a silent stage with real British tube response, or to add two Plexi-era channels to an amp with a series effects loop. The Imperial Preamp is the same format with the American blackface and tweed voices.
