Our take

Who this one is for

The BG-151 pairs Madagascar Rosewood back and sides with the OM Hybrid body of Boucher's Bluegrass Goose series. The top is hand-selected AAAA Adirondack red spruce, the same species Boucher uses for the bracing, and the soundhole is opened up to 4.125 inches. An elevated top radius and Boucher's modified V neck profile are there for playability, finished in satin against the gloss body.

Boucher builds the Bluegrass Goose in Berthier-sur-Mer, Quebec, for bluegrass players live and in the studio, and describes the sound as rich lows, driving mids and strong highs with presence alongside the rest of a bluegrass band. For Madagascar Rosewood in the Dreadnought, look at the BG-152; for East Indian Rosewood in this shape, the BG-51; and for Brazilian Rosewood, the BG-251.

It can be built up with Boucher's option packs for finish, pickup, top grade and trim, which follow below.

Options for this model include:

  • Burst Pack: a hand-applied sunburst, tobacco burst, open amber burst or black top
  • Gold Pack: torrefied Gold Touch top and Gotoh gold open gear tuners (not with the Vintage Pack)
  • Intimate Concert Pack: K&K Pure Mini pickup, installed
  • Master Grade Pack: master grade Adirondack red spruce top, abalone rosette, koa or maple body binding (not with the Ultimate Pack)
  • Prestige Pack: Style-41 abalone trim
  • Ultimate Pack: master grade Adirondack red spruce top, koa or maple neck binding, high gloss neck, a choice of fretboard inlays, Gotoh 510 open gear tuners (not with the Master Grade Pack)
  • Left-handed build

Price subject to change based on options chosen.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
