The 003 14-Fret is the 14-fret 00 in East Indian rosewood under Sitka spruce, in Collings' bound 3 trim: ivoroid on the body, fingerboard and square peghead, an abalone rosette and abalone-dot pins, gold Waverly tuners and a chevron backstrip. The ebony board is left without inlay.
At 14 1/2" wide and 4" deep, the body falls between Collings' small and mid-sized guitars. Collings hears a midrange resonance and a dry, articulate attack in it, with more low-end definition than the size suggests. The 24 7/8" scale lowers string tension, and the modified V neck has a 1 11/16" bone nut, with a belly bridge at 2 3/16" spacing.
