The SJ Indian is Collings' small jumbo in East Indian rosewood, with a Sitka spruce top and a Honduran mahogany neck. The 16" lower bout and 4 1/2" depth put it near dreadnought size, and the tight waist changes the air space inside. Collings describes SJ players as after the bass and volume of a big guitar with clear trebles and a strong midrange.
The trim follows the SJ: ivoroid binding with b/w/b/w/b purfling on the body, ivoroid binding on the board and the haircut peghead, mother-of-pearl Modern Diamonds in ebony, and a chevron backstrip on this rosewood version. The C-shape neck has a 1 11/16" bone nut, the top is braced with a pre-war scalloped X, and it is strung with mediums.
