The 470 JL is Collings' signature electric with Julian Lage, their second model together after the OM1 JL acoustic. Collings describes years of design, prototyping and listening with Lage before the guitar was settled. It is fully hollow with a trestle block, built from solid Honduran mahogany with a maple laminate top, 1 13/16" deep.
The pickups are Ron Ellis Ellisonics with custom adjustable height, run through the 470 wiring of one master volume and two tones. The bridge is a pinned ebony base with a tune-o-matic top and nylon saddles, ahead of a Bigsby B3 vibrato. The neck is Honduran mahogany on a 24 7/8" scale, with an ebony-bound ebony board, graduated pearl dots and a Delrin nut, and relic nickel Waverly tuners with oval buttons on the 470 JL Haircut peghead. The finish is antiqued nitrocellulose lacquer.
