Our take

Who this one is for

The CL, Collings' City Limits, is a solid body built in Austin from Honduran mahogany with a premium flamed maple top. The neck goes in with an extra-long mortise and tenon joint and flows into a contoured heel, the back carries comfort carves, and the cutaway opens the upper frets. Collings credits the mahogany and the hand-set neck joint with the guitar's complexity and sustain.

A pair of Lollar Standard Wind Imperial humbuckers run through 50s-style wiring with CTS 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow caps. The 24 7/8" scale and 12" radius rosewood board with mother-of-pearl long dots sit on a 1 11/16" nut, with a Kluson ABR-1 bridge and Kluson stop tailpiece.

Binding is non-grained ivoroid on the body and fingerboard, with a bracketed cream pickguard and amber or black top hat knobs. The CL Deluxe moves to grained ivoroid throughout, binds the peghead and drops the pickguard. Tops, finishes, inlays and more can be specified from Collings' options, listed below.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
