The CW Mh A is the Collings Winfield in Honduran mahogany, named for the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. It starts from Collings' standard dreadnought and adds the things flatpickers ask for: an Adirondack spruce top braced in Adirondack, an enlarged soundhole, and a pre-war scalloped X-brace without a tongue brace, modelled on the earliest 14-fret dreadnoughts. Collings voices it for headroom and projection when the playing gets aggressive.
The Dalmatian pickguard and the uninlaid ebony fingerboard mark it as a Winfield. On the mahogany model the body and board are bound in tortoise, the rosette is black and white purfling and the backstrip is walnut. The Modified V neck has a 1 23/32" bone nut, and the belly bridge spaces the strings at 2 1/4".
