The D2 A HC is the rosewood dreadnought in Collings' Hill Country Series, an Adirondack spruce top over East Indian rosewood with the series' scalloped X-brace and abbreviated tongue brace. Collings voices Hill Country guitars toward a strong fundamental, warm and dry with a full low end, familiar to bluegrass players and responsive enough for other styles.
Hill Country details include a hand-poured tortoise pickguard with matching rosette ring, wedge and heel cap, and a logo stamped on the back of the peghead, leaving the East Indian rosewood veneer on the front clean. This model adds ivoroid body binding, a zipper backstrip, gold mother-of-pearl long diamond and square inlays on an ebony-bound board, and a square peghead with a volute. The Hill Country neck comes large or small on a 1 3/4" aged bone nut, under ultra-thin nitrocellulose throughout.
For the mahogany Hill Country dreadnought, look at the D1 A HC, and for Collings' standard rosewood dreadnought with herringbone, the D2H. Collings' options for finishes, trim and more follow below.
