The OM1 is Collings' Orchestra Model in mahogany: a 14-fret body with a Sitka spruce top over Honduran mahogany back and sides, a Honduran mahogany neck and pre-war scalloped X-bracing. The trim is clean and traditional, with tortoise binding and b/w/b/w top purfling, a walnut backstrip, a black and white purfling rosette and an ebony board with mother-of-pearl short dots. The body is finished in high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
Collings notes that the OM body draws fingerstyle players and flatpickers alike, and that its shallow depth, a little over 4", gives a balanced tone and a quick response. The neck is a Modified V with a 1 11/16" bone nut. For the same body in East Indian rosewood with herringbone purfling, look at the OM2H. The Traditional Series version is the OM1 T, and the Hill Country version with an Adirondack top is the OM1 A HC.
