Our take

Who this one is for

The Mustang Bass is a 30" short scale bass with one Coastline Mustang Bass split-coil pickup in the seventies style and a 4-saddle strings-through-body bridge. The shorter scale puts the frets closer together and lowers string tension, which suits guitarists who double on bass and players with smaller hands. It comes strung with short scale .040-.095 roundwounds.

The neck is a Modern "C" with a 1.625" nut, a 9.5" radius and 19 Medium Jumbo frets, with vintage-style lollipop tuners on the headstock. Controls are just master volume and tone, and the tone is the Greasebucket circuit, which rolls off highs without adding bass.

For a full 34" scale with a split pickup, look at the American Professional Classic Precision Bass. The JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass is an artist take on the same short scale body.

Faded Sherwood Green Metallic and 3-Color Sunburst come with a rosewood board, Faded Dakota Red with maple.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
