By 1954 the Precision Bass had taken on the contoured body of the new Stratocaster while keeping its single-coil pickup and Tele-style headstock, and this one recreates that year. An ash body under gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, a 1-ply parchment pickguard, a Pure Vintage '54 Single-Coil Precision pickup and a serialized 2-saddle bridge with fibre saddles.
The '54 "C" neck is one-piece maple with a 7.25" radius, 20 vintage tall frets and a 1.70" nut. It comes strung with stainless flatwounds, which suits the short, round thump this pickup was made for. Two saddles means each pair of strings shares one, so intonation is close rather than exact, as it was in 1954.
The American Vintage II 1960 Precision Bass is the later design, with the split-coil pickup, alder body and rosewood board. Offered in Vintage Blonde and 2-Color Sunburst.
