By 1960 the Precision Bass had become the design most players picture: alder body, split-coil pickup, rosewood fingerboard and a 4-ply tortoiseshell pickguard. This one recreates that year under gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, with a Pure Vintage '60 Split-Coil Precision pickup.
The 1960 "C" neck is maple with a slab rosewood board, a 7.25" radius, clay dots, 20 vintage tall frets and a 1.70" nut. The slab board is the flat-bottomed rosewood used before the 1962 change to round-laminated boards. A 4-saddle bridge with threaded steel saddles lets each string intonate on its own, and it comes strung with roundwounds.
For the earlier single-coil P-Bass with a maple neck and ash body, look at the American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass. The American Professional Classic Precision Bass is the modern take on the same split-coil idea. Offered in Olympic White and 3-Color Sunburst.
