Our take

Who this one is for

Blu DeTiger's Jazz Bass is built around her pop and funk playing, and it looks the part: Sky Burst Sparkle with a matching painted headstock, a mirrored pickguard and chrome hardware. The body is chambered ash, which takes weight out of the bass for long sets.

The pickups are a Custom Blu DeTiger Fireball Bass Humbucker at the bridge and a Player Plus Noiseless Jazz Bass in the neck slot, blended with a pan pot rather than two volumes. An 18V active preamp gives you treble, mid and bass boost and cut, and a mini toggle switches to passive, so the bass keeps playing if the battery dies. The 1966 "C" neck has a satin back, a 9.5" slab rosewood board and vintage tall frets, which make notes easy to grip with less fingertip drag on the board.

For a passive, traditional Jazz Bass, compare the American Professional Classic Jazz Bass or the American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
